Course Overview
This training program combines a two course training track:
Activity Professional Aging and SocietyThere are many types of facilities where Activity Professionals work. Activity Professionals (recreational therapists) can work in long-term care facilities, assisted living communities or adult day care programs. The Activity Professional provides activities for residents in these facilities and may play many diverse roles within the each community. The goal of the Activity Professional is to create a homelike environment where the residents have control of their lives. There are also administrative responsibilities and resident care duties as well as plenty of other tasks that keep the work interesting.Program Objectives
After completing this course, you should be able to:
Comprehend the role of the activity professional in adult care
Identify methods for person-centered activity programming
Identify the steps to assess, document, and prepare treatment plans
Define methods for quality assurance and time management
Identify the steps in planning and implementing a successful exercise program
Comprehend how the social construction of age impacts social gerontology research
Identify the characteristics of today is population aged 65 and older
Identify the major theories of biological aging and patterns of illnesses in later life
Comprehend how family variations and relationships support social functioning
Identify the current technological and medical breakthroughs for older people
Job Outlook
Employment of recreational therapists is expected to grow by 17 percent from 2010 to 2020, about as fast as the average for all occupations. As the large baby-boom generation ages, they will need recreational therapists to help treat age-related injuries and illnesses, such as strokes. As people age, their declines in general physical ability, and sometimes mental ability, may also be treated with recreational therapy.

What is difference between a certificate and a certification?
By successfully completing a course through one of our college or university partners the student is awarded a Certificate of Completion from the institution. If there is a state or national exam that the course is preparing a student for, the proper certifying body will be indicated and that association will proctor and award any type of certification. This is the student’s responsibility, although ECA is here to help guide our students in the right direction.
Does this course translate in to college credit?
Through our college and university partners, ECA offers non-credit certificate programs.
How long do access to my complete my course?
Access will begin on your start date and end on your end date unless otherwise specified. If you are falling behind in your course please contact an Education Consultant to talk about your options.
When are the course start dates?
The course start dates are determined by the student due to open-enrollment.
Is the Certification exam included in the course?
The certification exam is not included in the cost of the course unless otherwise specified in the course education and training plan.
